Bonkers about bunting!!! :)

Here at 'Jemima & the rose' we are completely SMITTEN with bunting - how can you not be? It looks utterly gorgeous everywhere, from the garden to kids rooms, to your living room, to your shed.... if in doubt a splash of floral, vintage bunting will always make anything look good enough to eat :)

Here are some examples we have made ourselves but also some we have found along our travels...

Isnt it gorgeous!!!! - Oh we do 'HEART' bunting!!!

But where does Bunting come from?: Bunting as a term for the red, white, and blue decorative material comes from flag use. In the 18th century bunting referred to a kind of cloth that was used to make flags. By extension, it came to mean a flag or flags in general.

NOTE: Bunting is also the name of a type of bird. Bunting in the lullaby “Bye Baby Bunting” means “chubby one.” According to Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, “Baby bunting” was “a nursery nurse’s term of affection for a young baby.”

But why do we use Bunting now: - Because its delicious!!! :)

Perfection!!!

Do you want to learn how to make quick and easy bunting yourself? If so, here's how:

You will need:
Fabric - a selction of scraps will do
5 mts of tape
Pinking shears
Needle and thread (or sewing machine if you prefer)

Step One: Using the pinking shears cut out lots of triangles – approximately 12cms by 15cms. You don’t have to using pinking shears, but you will need to hem the edges of your triangle or it will fray.

Step Two: Arrange your triangles in colour order dependent on your colour scheme

Step Three: Lay out your tape on a hard surface and lay your triangles out onto the tape about half way up.

Step Four: Fold the tap over in half and pin. Make sure that you trap the triangle within the tape.

Step Five: Stitch the bunting. This can be done by machine or by hand

Step Six: Now hang your bunting out and have a glass of celebratory wine ;)

So whether its bunting for an event or just because you want some, bunting doesnt have to be complex to make! :) We hope you enjoy making some of your own beautiful bunting this summer and of course enjoying that glass of well deserved wine after ;)

Watch this space for lots of 'Jemima & the rose' pretties!

Love & kisses - 'Jemima & the rose' xx
